Try It Out for Yourself
Take a look around your area and see what it has to offer. Check out local gyms, day spas, and hotels to find one with a sauna facility. (It being a public sauna might also help you determine if you’re the kind of person who relishes sweet solitude in the sauna or if you are absolutely going to be throwing a sauna party when you get yours up and running!)
One other thought: pop into some local pool and spa showrooms and see if they are displaying any sauna models. It seems that more and more pool and spa dealers are finding that owning a sauna is a perfect complement to a pool or hot tub, so your chances are better than ever for finding a dealer who has a sauna on display.
Settle on Your Wants and Needs
Now that you have a working knowledge of what a sauna room is, why other people like them, and if it’s an experience you’d like to introduce to your home, it’s time to think about what kind of sauna you should get. Do you want something more intimate that seats only one or two people, or do you want to get a big group of friends and family involved? What kind of a heater do you want – electric, gas, wood-burning? Consider where you’d like to position your sauna and how far it is from a breaker/a gas line/ a wood pile. Also, would a traditional sauna or an infrared therapy room best meet your needs? Good points to ponder as you arm yourself for this important and deeply rewarding decision.
