Heart Disease vs. the Sauna: A Halloween Tale
If you’re stuck trying to pull together a last-minute Halloween costume for this evening, there is perhaps nothing scarier that you could dress up as than America’s number one killer: heart disease.
We wish we were joking, but the statistics surrounding heart disease make for a pretty scary read. If you don’t believe us, well then here’s a sampling provided by the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association.
In a year, 370,000 Americans succumb to heart disease.
About every 42 seconds, it strikes out at someone else.
Nothing else kills as many women as heart disease, including cancer. Including all forms of cancer. Including all forms of cancer combined.
Heart disease kills more people worldwide than anything else we’ve come to fear. Terrorism, contagious diseases, natural disasters – you name it, it can’t compete.
The steps we can take to fight heart disease are nothing new. Don’t smoke, stay active, eat healthy. You’ve heard it all before. But what many people may not realize is that there’s one other thing they can do to promote a healthy heart: hop in the sauna.
Proven by science and tested in practice, regular sauna use helps prevent heart-related deaths. Sauna use is acknowledged in the medical field for improved circulatory function, and a study published in the medical journal JAMA Internal Medicine showed that men who used a traditional Finnish-style sauna regularly were less likely to have fatal heart problems.
And unlike Brussels sprouts, cod liver oil, and lunges – things that are also good for you like the sauna is good for you – sitting in a sauna is a thoroughly enjoyable experience! The visceral, bone-deep heat of a sauna is a special reward at the end of the day.
So when you get back from trick-or-treating with the kids this evening, hopefully you have a home sauna to treat yourself to. And if you don’t, that’s what we’re here for. Give us a call at 888.355.3050 or visit our website www.almostheaven.com to check out our indoor sauna and outdoor sauna models.
