Infrared 101-Top tips for using your infrared sauna
Which infrared sauna is right for you?
Before buying your infrared sauna, it is important to know what it is made from. Your sauna is a place of health and wellness, and toxic materials such as glue, paint, varnishes, and cheap plastics should be avoided.
At Almost Heaven Saunas we use only the highest quality materials for our saunas: high-grade clear hemlock lumber, tempered glass windows and doors, carbon fiber heating panels, sheet molding composite (SMC), and stainless steel hinges and door handles.
Size is another factor in choosing your perfect sauna. Will you sauna alone or with others? Where will you put your new sauna? How much physical space do you have to work with?
Do you prefer mornings or evenings?
Add sauna to your weekly routine by scheduling it in. Many people find that an infrared sauna in the morning is energizing and helps them to start their day. Others find evening saunas to be beneficial for quality of sleep. Find what works best for you and stick with it!
Set a timer
Start small. Heat is serious business! It takes time for our bodies to build up a tolerance. Start with a 15-20 minute session and see how you feel. Gradually build up your time and maybe someday you will be sweating it out for 45-minutes! Set a timer so you can keep track. Do what feels comfortable.
Leave your phone at the door
Detox your body and your mind by sitting quietly and taking deep breaths. Allow the heat to wash away all of the stress and business of the day.
Learn about color therapy
Many infrared saunas offer a chromotherapy (color therapy) feature. Each color offers a different health benefit. For example, the color red supports circulatory and nervous function, yellow can be used as a mood-booster, and blue is thought to have a positive effect on pain.
Rinse off
If you have the time, rinsing off before and after your sauna session can be beneficial to your skin. The infrared heat will open up your pores allowing you to sweat and your system to be cleansed. Taking a cold shower will help to close those pores, leaving your skin fresh and clean.
Stay hydrated
Drinking water before, during, and after your infrared sauna session is so important. Saunas make you sweat, and those fluids need to be replenished. If you ever feel light headed or dizzy, take a break from the heat and drink, drink, drink!
Reacclimate
After your infrared sauna session, take a moment to readjust to your surroundings. Do you feel calmer, more at ease? Are you energized for the day or ready for a good night’s sleep? Hopefully you leave feeling cleansed, relaxed, and rejuvenated for whatever comes next.
