CHROMOTHERAPY WITH SAUNAS
Look around you. Are you outside with the bright blue sky? Inside a room with a cream-colored ceiling? Are there green plants, brown chairs, soft yellow lights?
Color is one of the most powerful elements in our environment. It’s why we stop at a stop sign, go on a green light, or pull over to snap a picture of the sunset. Whether or not we are aware of it, color surrounds us and affects us daily on a physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual level.
Because of these effects, color has been used for physical and emotional healing for thousands of years. Since 2000 BC the Egyptians and Greeks have used color in their religious practices, painting treatment sanctuaries with different colors, as well as adding color to their ointments, salves, and garments in order to treat disease and imbalance. This alternative healing method is still used today by many, and is known as chromotherapy.
Chromotherapy is the science of using light and color to balance out and restore the energy vibrations of the body. All of the cells in the body vibrate with energy. Each color has its own wavelength, or vibration, and each vibration can raise, lower, or neutralize those energy levels within the body. 1 Dr. Sarah Kun Leddy in her book, Integrative Health Promotion: Conceptual bases for nursing practice, says this about color therapy: “Color therapy is based on the concept that disease, a chemical imbalance, and an inappropriate energy vibration are equivalent.” Each of our organs functions best at a specific energy level. When that level is too high or too low, our bodies can become imbalanced causing stress and disease.
For the purpose of chromotherapy, colored lights are sometimes added to infrared saunas and used in other forms of therapy as a way to have a more holistic therapeutic experience. At Almost Heaven Saunas, we offer the Spectrum Infrared Series and our Radiant Indoor Saunas. Designed with a variety of colored LED lights and dimmer switch, this infrared sauna allows you to change and control the amount of light and color however you desire. With our infrared saunas, you can experience firsthand the benefits and healing powers of color, light, and infrared heat in your very own home.
