Sourced from the Northwest corner of the United States, our Hemfir lumber is an excellent option for a budget-friendly sauna kit. Popular with indoor saunas, it can also be used in an outdoor application. Offering a consistent and natural white coloration, it can be stained with a clear or tinted stain to protect, promote, and enhance the natural beauty of this gorgeous lumber!

Rustic Red Cedar

A customer favorite! Offering natural resistance to the elements and to pests, a Rustic Cedar sauna will offer many years of sauna enjoyment. With varying tones of red, brown, and white it is guaranteed to match any setting it’s constructed in. The aromatics of the Western Red Cedar it’s made from are second to none, amplifying the relaxation in your sauna. With many reporting improved sleep quality from their cedar sauna, it is an excellent and popular choice to add to your daily routine!

Onyx

Hemfir

Hemfir is lighter in color with small tight knots that give its rustic appearance. Rustic Fir is our most popular lumber for indoor saunas and is also ideal for exterior applications. The exterior of the sauna can be left natural or stained or painted as desired. This lumber is sourced from North America.

Sauna alone or with a few friends; the choice is yours with the Watoga! This 6’x5’ barrel sauna fits up to four people, with a Harvia 4.5kW electric heater that efficiently heats the space up to 180ºF. If the party starts later, delay the start time up to eight hours while you prepare, and expect a fully heated sauna when the time is right. Indoors or out, the Watoga DIY barrel sauna is ready to turn your house into a home.

    • Customizations

  • Lumber type: Choose between three different types of solid lumber. Rustic fir is light in color, with small knots creating a unique pattern on each piece. Rustic cedar has a slightly red hue amongst the knots and boasts a pleasant cedar aroma. Clear cedar is premium lumber, with knots noticeably absent. All three lumber options are 1 ⅜” thick to insulate the sauna room.


    Vista Rear Window: Open the barrel sauna interior to breathtaking views with the addition of the vista rear window. This 20” x 36” piece of 3/8” glass sits on the back end barrel, above the electric heater. 


    Door style: Outfit your sauna with one of the following two door options: deluxe glass or wood door with a window.


    Heater: You can upgrade the Watoga from the standard 4.5kW heater to a 6kW.

    • Care & Maintenance

  • Traditional saunas require very little upkeep. Simply wipe down the interior after each use and check for any dust or debris that you may have tracked in. Read more about long-term care and maintenance here. 

    • Assembly

  • Some basic handyman skills are helpful when assembling the sauna. The only additional equipment needed is a cordless drill. Two people can generally do the assembly in 6 hours or less. It is recommended that you review the assembly manual in advance to familiarize yourself with the process.

    We first started making our signature Barrel Sauna nearly 40 years ago, and it’s become a popular option on our product line ever since. The Barrel Sauna is assembled using a ball-and-socket profile held in place by stainless steel bands and minimal fasteners, the significance of this configuration being that it maintains a reliable seal while allowing the lumber to expand and contract. The entire unit is mounted on polymer support cradles that loft the undercarriage of the sauna and keep it from coming in direct contact with any moisture on the ground.

    The simple grace of a barrel-shaped sauna is found in its ball-and-socket profile, held in place by sturdy stainless-steel bands and minimal fasteners. This arrangement allows the lumber staves to expand and contract to form a tight seal, and the unit sits on polymer support cradles that lift the sauna undercarriage off the ground. The Classic Barrel Sauna is an expressive take on our Classic Barrel Sauna – a design noted for its efficiency, even distribution of heat, and visual appeal. By taking the front round section and setting it back into the sauna, we’ve created a visually appealing and useful outside sitting area – a place to hold towels or drinks or to serve as a relaxing place to cool off between sauna rounds.
