How To Prepare Your Indoor Sauna Space
Installing an indoor sauna is a fantastic way to create a personal wellness retreat inside your home. Whether integrating a freestanding sauna or building a custom sauna, proper preparation ensures optimal performance, safety, and longevity. Step 1: Choose the Right Location Before installing your sauna, consider the following factors to select the best location: ✔️ Accessibility: Pick a space that is easy to reach and provides privacy, ideally near a bathroom or shower for post-sauna rinsing. ✔️ Structural Integrity: Ensure the floor can support the sauna’s weight, especially in multi-story homes. ✔️ Ventilation: Good ventilation is essential to allow for fresh air intake and moisture removal. ✔️ Available Space: Determine the size of your sauna based on your needs and available room space. Common indoor sauna locations include: Home gyms Master bathrooms Basements Spas or wellness areas Thinking about placing an indoor sauna outdoors? Indoor saunas are not designed to withstand outdoor elements like rain or snow. If you’re considering an outdoor installation, keep in mind: Covering is required: A covered patio or pergola is ideal. Glass retains less heat: Indoor saunas have more glass than outdoor models, so in colder climates, upgrading to a more powerful heater is recommended. No enclosed floor: Indoor saunas do not come with flooring. If placing it on a slatted deck, install a sealed platform underneath to prevent drafts. Step 2: Frame Insulate the Space If you are building a custom indoor sauna, proper framing and insulation are key to heat retention and moisture control. ✔️ Frame the area: Use wood framing to create the sauna enclosure. ✔️ Insulate walls and ceiling: Use high-quality insulation like fiberglass or rock wool to maintain heat efficiency. ✔️ Install a vapor barrier: A foil-faced vapor barrier should be installed to prevent moisture from seeping into surrounding walls. Freestanding saunas do not require framing but should still be placed in a well-ventilated, dry area. Step 3: Electrical Considerations for Your Heater If you choose an electric sauna heater, proper installation is crucial for safety and compliance. ✔️ Power source: Ensure your chosen location has access to the appropriate electrical supply. ✔️ Consult an electrician: All electrical work must be performed by a licensed electrician who understands local codes and regulations. ✔️ Cost considerations: Electrical installation costs vary based on: Distance from your sauna to your electrical panel Local electrician rates Cost of wiring and material ✔️ Get multiple quotes: We recommend contacting 2-3 electricians for estimates before starting installation. Step 4: Prepare the Floor Your indoor sauna can be placed on almost any solid surface—including concrete, tile, and laminate. However, avoid placing it directly on carpet or hardwood flooring, as moisture and heat can cause damage. ✔️ Use a waterproof surface: Tile, concrete, or other water-resistant materials are best. ✔️ Ensure proper drainage: A slight floor slope can direct water toward a drain in areas with higher moisture. ✔️ Install a sealed platform if necessary: If placing the sauna on a slatted deck, build a sealed platform underneath to eliminate drafts. Step 5: Plan for Final Details Before installation, consider these final touches: ✔️ Door Size Placement: Ensure the sauna door is positioned for easy access. ✔️ Benches Seating: Plan your seating arrangement based on your comfort and available space. ✔️ Lighting: Use low-wattage, sauna-safe lighting to enhance the atmosphere. Step 6: Shipping Delivery Information All Almost Heaven Saunas ship within the continental U.S. via freight service. Learn moreEMFs and Infrared Saunas: Understanding the Science Behind Sauna Health
Saunas are an ideal place to rejuvenate and relax. They provide many health benefits that will aid in the immediate and long term health goals of its user. If you are a sauna enthusiast, chances are you are a health and wellness-minded individual. You care about your body and invest in ways to improve your overall health. Whether you are a fan of the traditional sauna experience and enjoying a good steam, or are interested in infrared heating panels and the benefits they offer, you want to ensure you are doing what is best for you and your body. To find confidence in this, it is important to conduct the necessary research and to educate yourself on the variety of sauna options. With hybrid models, you get the luxury of being able to choose between both types of saunas to reap all the benefits that traditional and infrared saunas have to offer! What Are EMF’s: EMFs, also known as electromagnetic fields, are a common topic sauna enthusiasts research when looking into infrared and hybrid sauna models. EMF is the energy that is created when electricity and magnetism is combined, and can be found all around us in our everyday lives due to both natural and man-made sources. For example, you come into contact with EMF by simply standing outside in the sunlight, making a phone call, blow drying your hair, listening to music on a bluetooth device, vacuuming your house, and so many more ways. It is important to note that EMFs can be categorized as either ionizing or non-ionizing. When concern is raised regarding EMFs, it is commonly due to our knowledge of the harmful radiation that can come from sources in the ionizing category, such as x-rays and UV rays from sunlight. EMFs in the ionizing category have higher frequency radiation, which can hold the potential to cause cellular and DNA damage to the average human. The EMFs in the non-ionizing category are far less harmful to humans. These EMFs have lower frequencies, which are generally perceived as being harmless to humans due to their lack of potency. These low frequency non-ionizing EMFs radiate from devices such as your computer, cellphone, TV, and other similar devices. We expose ourselves to these EMFs for hours on a daily basis. Infrared EMF’s: How do EMFs relate to infrared saunas? The infrared heating panels use infrared light to create heat. Although we cannot see infrared light, we can feel it in the form of heat as it warms us at a cellular level. This can easily be compared to the type of heat you feel standing in a ray of sunlight. The surrounding environment may not necessarily be hot, but you are still able to feel the warmth. We can also find infrared heating elsewhere, such as infant incubators used in hospital care units. When developing our infrared saunas, we were careful to ensure they have low EMF to provide the many benefits of an infrared sauna without causing the harmful effects of high EMF. Given the two categories of ionizing and non ionizing previously mentioned, which are relatively extreme from one another, you may be asking yourself where an infrared sauna finds itself on the EMF spectrum. It may surprise you to find that your cell phone puts you into contact with a higher frequency EMF than an infrared sauna ever will. Our Low EMF carbon heater panels range between an average of 5mG-10mG at about two inches from the heater panel, our Ultra Low EMF carbon heater panels range between4 3mG-5mG, and our Near Zero EMF/Full Spectrum models range at less than 3mG (NIR heaters range at about 5mG-7mG at the same approximate 2 inches). To make this information a bit more relatable, we have provided a chart below to show a variety of common household EMF sources and their mG ratings. Comparison Chart: Benefits of Infrared Saunas: Unlike a traditional sauna that heats the room as a whole, an infrared sauna directly penetrates into the body’s tissue to produce perspiration. An infrared sauna user is able to achieve the same heat therapy benefits as a traditional sauna, but at lower, more tolerable temperatures. This results in easier breathing and less of a burden on the heart. There are many benefits to reap from using an infrared sauna. As part of the natural cooling process, the body will begin to perspire as it is introduced to the heat of the sauna. Through the perspiration process, acid and waste residue like toxins, sodium, alcohol, nicotine, cholesterol, and the potentially carcinogenic heavy metals are removed from the cells (especially zinc, lead, nickel, cadmium, etc.). The pores of our skin open and discharge waste products shedding any old skin cells leaving the skin glowing and clean, with improved tone, elasticity, texture, and color. Infrared sauna users may also experience health benefits such as reduced stress, relaxed muscles, pain relief from Rheumatoid Arthritis, increased blood circulation, cardiovascular conditioning, cleared rashes and acne, reduced cellulite, enhanced skin tone, among many other benefits. With this newfound knowledge and information, you are now well-equipped to make an educated decision on which sauna type is right for you. You now have a thorough understanding of what EMFs are, how they relate to infrared saunas, and the many benefits you can receive from using an infrared sauna. We have quite a few sauna options to choose from with various heater types as well. For best performance and in a commercial setting especially, bigger is better! A few things to consider would be how you will allow your guests to use the heater and the ease of use for your guests as well. See below for some key features. Operation time - All traditional heaters currently in the US will only output heat for 1 hour at a time. However, there is no harm in restarting the 1 hour consecutively. Ease of operation - We have two types of heaters; dial and digitally controlled. Dial controls do not offer an exact timeline or full visibility like a digitally controlled heater does. With the digital control located outside of the sauna room, the goal temperature is set, then the heater reaches and maintains that temperature very accurately. The dial control on the other hand can be set between minimum and maximum and there is no display with a temperature reading. Heat Level - All traditional heaters will reach a minimum of 170F. A higher kilowatt size will offer a quicker heat up time and various models may reach higher temperatures than others. Heater models to choose from - We have 6 main heater models in the US including the KIP, KIP Digital, The Wall, Spirit, Virta, and Virta Combi. Between these models, the Spirit, Virta and Virta Combi will be the highest performers offering the highest temperature range, stone capacity, and heat up time while offering digital controls as standard. Sauna size for your selected heater model. KIP Dials (good) or KIP Digital (better) - Will fit all sauna models 1-8 person size and come in 4.5kW-8kW. The Wall Dials (better) - Will fit all sauna models 1-8 person size and come in 6kW and 8kW. Spirit Digital (best) - Will fit all sauna models 1-8 person size and come in 6kW and 8kW. Virta Digital (best) - Can be paired with all 4+ person models and comes in 6-10.5kW. Virta Combi (best) - The "Combi" Virta is a steam generating feature that offers a traditional sauna as well as a steam room and can be paired with all 4+ person models and comes in 8-10.5kW. What are the electrical requirements? See our downloads & manuals page Here for all heater models including electrical specifications based on model and kilowatt size. All traditional heaters will require a hardwired connection to 240V and between 30-60amp breaker sizes. Water use for a wet/dry sauna - All traditional heaters come with stones when purchased with your sauna kit and can be used to create steam within the sauna. In a commercial setting, it is imperative that your guests are educated on proper application for an electric heater. Water should be added when the stones have reached a minimum of 160F and in quantity of no more than 1 ladle or 1/4 cup at a time. Learn moreAdd an Outdoor Rinse to your Routine!
FAQ's AN OUTDOOR SHOWER HAS MANY APPLICATIONS A Rinse outdoor shower has many practical applications. As long as you can bring a garden hose to the shower, it can be installed nearly anywhere. It is the perfect addition to your cottage, allowing the kids to rinse off the sand after a day at the beach. Use it poolside to rinse off the chlorine after swimming. It is the perfect "cool down" after an invigorating sauna session. Use the Rinse shower any place where an outdoor rinse would be convenient. Where can I place the shower? The shower can be placed on any firm and level surface. This could include concrete, pavers, wood deck, ceramic tile, etc. It is not recommended to place the shower on the bare ground. Do I need to anchor the shower in place? It depends on the setting. If there are strong winds then you may want to anchor with the included brackets. You could also consider the optional floor section which allows you to anchor the floor to the surface and the shower to the floor section. How do I hook bring water to the shower? A standard garden hose will be connected to one of the fittings on the back of the shower. Simply turn on the faucet and your shower is ready to use. What is involved in bringing hot water to the shower? Your plumber will install hot and cold water lines from the source and plumb them to the rear of the shower using standard faucet hookups. I live in a northern climate. What about freezing? If the water in the shower fittings freezes it will damage the shower. If there is fear of freezing it is best to drain the shower after using by removing the garden hose and turning the shower faucet open to let all water drain out. Can I easily move the shower? Yes, one person can easily move the shower. What is the warranty for Outdoor Showers? One year on all parts that fail. Simply report the broken part to us and we will send a replacement. Natural weathering of wood is not covered. Will the wood withstand the elements? Yes. The wood will turn gray over time due to the effects of UV, but this in no way damages the wood or performance of the shower. It is suggested to paint or stain the pine version as it does not have natural weather resistance. Can I stain the shower? Certainly. If you wish to have the shower retain its color or if you want to match the shower to some other wood around your home, simply use a UV inhibited stain of your choice. How is the shower shipped to me? The shower will ship to you via UPS in a single box. Do I need the optional floor section? You do not need it, but if you would like to have a wood floor then it is a nice feature. Will the salt air affect my shower? No, the metal is all stainless steel and is designed to withstand all climates. I live in a windy area. How can I best secure the shower? Either with the angle braces that come with your shower or with the optional floor section.
Learn more6 Reasons to Consider Buying an Infrared Sauna
Infrared saunas are gaining popularity, and for good reason. They offer a wide range of health benefits, from improving heart health and relieving pain to enhancing sleep quality and boosting immunity. Research continues to show that regular sauna sessions can significantly improve well-being and may even contribute to a longer, healthier life. What Is an Infrared Sauna? At first glance, an infrared sauna might look like a traditional one, but the way it generates heat is completely different. Instead of using a wood-burning or electric heater to warm the air, an infrared sauna uses extra-wide carbon fiber heating panels to emit radiant heat. A traditional sauna heats the room to about 195°F, warming your body from the outside in. In contrast, an infrared sauna operates at a more comfortable 115°–135°F while penetrating deeper into the body, raising your core temperature and inducing a deep, detoxifying sweat at the cellular level. The Health Benefits of Infrared Saunas 1. Heart Health Like traditional saunas, infrared saunas are excellent for cardiovascular health. As your body heats up, your heart rate increases, blood pressure lowers, and inflammation decreases. Infrared heat promotes cardiovascular conditioning similar to moderate to intense aerobic exercise, such as walking or jogging. The heat causes your blood vessels to expand, improving circulation and allowing more oxygen to reach your muscles. This effect strengthens the heart and improves overall circulation. A 2015 study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that frequent sauna use is associated with a lower risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD), fatal coronary heart disease (CHD), fatal cardiovascular disease (CVD), and all-cause mortality. The takeaway? Consistency is key! 2. Pain Relief If you’ve ever stepped into an infrared sauna, you’ve likely felt the immediate relief it provides. The deep-penetrating heat relaxes muscles, eases tension, and soothes aching joints. By increasing blood circulation and oxygen flow, infrared heat helps speed up muscle recovery and reduce inflammation. But it’s not just physical pain that an infrared sauna can help with. Studies have shown that regular sauna use can also help reduce symptoms of depression and anger, promoting emotional well-being. 3. Better Sleep Struggling with sleep? An infrared sauna session might be just what you need. The heat relaxes both your mind and body, helping to lower cortisol (the stress hormone) and preparing you for a deeper, more restful sleep. By promoting relaxation and reducing stress, sauna sessions can help regulate your body's natural sleep cycle, making it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep. 4. Stronger Immune System Regular infrared sauna use can help boost your immune system by mimicking the effects of a fever. When your body temperature rises, it triggers the production of white blood cells—your body's natural defense against bacteria and viruses. This process helps your body build immunity against common illnesses like colds and the flu. A consistent sauna routine can strengthen your immune response, keeping you healthier year-round. 5. Relaxation and Stress Relief In today’s fast-paced world, finding time to relax is essential for mental and physical well-being. Infrared saunas promote deep relaxation by balancing your body’s stress hormones and increasing endorphin levels. Whether you use your sauna time to unplug from technology, meditate, or connect with a friend, you’ll leave feeling rejuvenated, refreshed, and more at peace. 6. Muscle Recovery & Injury Prevention If you work out regularly, have a physically demanding job, or experience muscle stiffness, an infrared sauna can be an excellent tool for recovery. The heat helps relax tight muscles, improve circulation, and speed up the healing process of damaged tissues. Heat also triggers the release of endorphins—your body’s natural painkillers—helping to reduce discomfort and improve overall recovery time. Final Thoughts Infrared saunas offer a powerful, natural way to enhance your overall health and well-being. Whether you’re looking to improve heart health, reduce pain, sleep better, or simply de-stress, making sauna sessions a regular part of your routine can be a game-changer. If you haven’t tried an infrared sauna yet, now might be the perfect time to start. Your body—and mind—will thank you!

The Ultimate Guide to Sauna
A sauna is more than just a heated room—it’s an ancient tradition deeply rooted in relaxation, wellness, and social connection. According to the International Sauna Association, a sauna is a wooden room heated to 175-194F with low humidity briefly increased by steam from water poured over hot stones. But sauna is more than just a definition—it’s a holistic experience that nurtures the body, mind, and spirit. Sauna provides scientifically proven health benefits, promotes well-being, and offers a natural escape from the stress of daily life. Take The Perfect Heater Quiz Preparing Your Indoor or Outdoor Sauna Space Setting Up an Outdoor Sauna Installing an outdoor sauna is an excellent way to create a backyard wellness retreat. To ensure stability, longevity, and an optimal experience, follow these key preparation steps: 1. Choose a Location: Select a flat, level area with good drainage, easy access to power (if using an electric heater), and privacy for relaxation. 2. Prepare a Solid Base: A sturdy foundation is essential for sauna stability. Recommended options include: Concrete Pad: Provides maximum durability (ideal thickness: 3-4 inches). Gravel Base: Allows for natural drainage (use 4-6 inches of crushed stone). Wood Deck or Patio: Aesthetically pleasing but must support the sauna’s weight. Paving Stones: A cost-effective option that ensures even weight distribution. 3.
Whether enjoyed alone for reflection or shared with others in a peaceful setting, sauna is a timeless practice that everyone should have access to, no matter where they are. Types of Saunas: Find Your Perfect Fit Saunas come in various styles, each offering unique benefits. Understanding these differences can help you choose the best sauna for your lifestyle. 1. Traditional Saunas Heated by an electric or wood-burning stove loaded with stones. The famous Finnish löyly (steam) is created by splashing water on the hot stones. Benefits: Improves blood circulation Detoxifies the body through sweating Relieves muscle and joint pain Customizable experiences—from intense heat to a gentle, relaxing soak 2. Infrared Saunas Uses infrared panels to heat the body directly rather than warming the air. Operates at lower temperatures while still inducing deep sweating. Benefits: Faster recovery from sore muscles and joint pain Enhances cardiovascular health Lower temperatures make it ideal for those sensitive to high heat Heats up in 20-30 minutes, making it easy to use anytime 3. Hybrid Saunas A combination of traditional sauna heat and infrared technology. Offers the full benefits of both types, providing deeper muscle relaxation and detoxification. Benefits: Intense sweating and detox like a traditional sauna Infrared heat penetrates muscles deeply for better recovery 4. Steam Saunas/Shower Uses boiling water to create steam, maintaining high humidity with lower temperatures. Benefits: Ideal for muscle relaxation and skin hydration Provides a gentle heat for a soothing experience Helps with respiratory health and congestion relief The Benefits of Sauna: Why You Should Make It a Habit Short-Term Benefits Reduces stress by releasing endorphins, the body’s “feel-good” hormones. Improves sleep by regulating hormone activity and promoting deep rest. Relieves muscle and joint pain by increasing circulation and reducing soreness. Enhances skin health through deep sweating that removes toxins and impurities. Long-Term Health Benefits Heart Health: Regular sauna use improves cardiovascular function. Using a sauna 2-3 times a week reduces the risk of heart disease by over 20%, while 4-7 times a week lowers it by 50%. Better Circulation: Sauna improves blood vessel flexibility, reducing blood pressure and improving oxygen flow. Stronger Immunity: The heat stress triggers a boost in immune function, helping the body fight off illness. Cognitive Protection: Regular sauna use reduces the risk of dementia by 66% and Alzheimer’s by 65%. Sauna Use Reduces the Risk of: Heart-related deaths by 50% Dementia by 66% Alzheimer’s disease by 65% High blood pressure by 47% Pulmonary diseases by 41% Stroke by 62% Citation: https://www.mayoclinicproceedings.org/article/s0025-6196(18)30275-1/fulltext How to Sauna: A Step-by-Step Guide 1.
