Learn moreWhat is the Best Temperature to Sauna at?
You’ve set up your sauna, you’re ready to relax, but one question remains: What temperature should my sauna be at? The short answer? It depends! There’s no magic number—what feels perfect for one person may be too hot for another. Sauna preferences are highly individual, and the ideal temperature varies based on factors like sauna type, personal tolerance, and wellness goals. So, how do you find your perfect sauna temperature? Let’s break it down. Infrared vs. Traditional Saunas: What’s the Difference? Before choosing your optimal temperature, it’s important to understand the two main types of saunas: infrared and traditional. Each heats the body in a different way, affecting how hot the sauna needs to be. Infrared Saunas: Gentle & Effective Heat Operate at 120–150°F Use infrared rays to heat the body directly, rather than the air around you Encourage sweating and relaxation without extreme heat Ideal for those who prefer milder temperatures and longer sessions Best for: Gentle detoxification, muscle relaxation, and those who don’t enjoy intense heat. Traditional Saunas: The Classic High-Heat Experience Typically heated to 160–195°F Use an electric or wood-burning heater to warm the entire room Promote increased circulation, heavy sweating, and intense heat exposure Adding water to hot sauna rocks creates steam, making it feel even hotter Best for: A high-intensity sauna experience, deep sweating, and post-workout recovery. Finding Your Ideal Sauna Temperature Because everyone’s heat tolerance is different, finding the right temperature is a matter of trial and adjustment. Here’s how to dial in your perfect sauna session: For Infrared Saunas: Start at 120°F and gradually increase over multiple sessions. Pay attention to how you feel—you should be warm, relaxed, and sweating but not uncomfortable. Experiment with session length (typically 20–45 minutes). If you enjoy deeper heat, aim for the higher end (140–150°F). For Traditional Saunas: Begin at 160°F and slowly increase up to 185–195°F over time. Use a thermometer to monitor temperature changes. Add water to the sauna rocks for an instant burst of steam, making it feel hotter. Start with shorter sessions (10–15 minutes) and build up as you acclimate. Pro Tips for the Best Sauna Experience Listen to your body: If you feel dizzy, lightheaded, or uncomfortably hot, take a break. Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water before and after your session. Use a log: Track your sauna sessions, noting temperature, duration, and how you feel to find your ideal setup. Experiment: There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, so adjust and personalize your sauna routine. When it comes to sauna bathing, there’s no single "perfect" temperature—only the one that feels right for you. Whether you prefer the gentle warmth of an infrared sauna or the intense heat of a traditional sauna, the key is to listen to your body and adjust accordingly. Start at a moderate temperature, experiment with different heat levels, and track how you feel after each session. Over time, you’ll discover your ideal sauna experience, maximizing the benefits for relaxation, recovery, and overall wellness. So turn up the heat (or keep it mild!), and enjoy the journey of finding your magic sauna number!
Learn moreHeater Element FAQ
The way you place sauna stones and use water can significantly impact the health of your heating elements and heater. Proper care ensures longevity, efficiency, and safety. Stone Placement: Stability and Protection When arranging your sauna stones, be sure to: Place stones between each row and loop of the heating elements to provide stability. Ensure elements are properly spaced to prevent metal-on-metal contact. Over time, stones can degrade or settle into the heater. It’s a good idea to check them annually to maintain proper spacing and avoid direct metal contact, which can lead to damage. Water Usage: The Right Way Pouring water onto hot stones creates steam, enhancing your sauna experience—but it must be done correctly: Only add water when the stones have reached at least 160°F. Use no more than one ladle (¼ cup) at a time to prevent thermal shock. Improper water usage, such as pouring water too soon, can lead to bends, cracks, or bubbling on the heating elements. This damage may also be caused by metal-on-metal contact or even electrical surges. When to Replace Heating Elements Signs that your heating elements may need replacing include: Visible cracks, bends, or bubbling. Uneven heating or performance issues. If you suspect your heating elements are failing, we’ve attached a replacement guide for the KIP B series to this email. Replacement parts are also available on our website here. Warranty & Support Heating elements are covered under a 1-year warranty. If your heater is still under warranty and needs replacement, please: Take clear photos of the exposed heating elements. Include the element serial number (if visible). Send this information, along with your name and order details, to sales@almostheaven.com. Taking proper care of your sauna stones and heating elements ensures a longer-lasting, more enjoyable sauna experience. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!

Learn moreSauna Post-Workout Benefits
Adding a post-workout sauna can help with muscle recovery, give you an endurance boost, and improve overall performance. If you’re reading this blog post, you are probably already aware of some of the benefits that heat has on the body. Maybe you’ve even experienced some of the benefits in your own sauna or are looking to experience it in the future. Here are some of the benefits: Muscle Recovery The most well known benefit of using a sauna after a workout is muscle recovery. The heat of the sauna encourages relaxation and healing. Which is beneficial after a long strenuous workout, or even the quick and short workouts! Pain and injury to the body causes your muscles to weaken and atrophy over time, which is why it is so important to give your body time to recover. Heating your entire body in a sauna can help to strengthen your muscles and reduce the possibility of further injury. In her extensive research on heat exposure and its effects on performance enhancement, Dr. Rhonda Perciavalle-Patrick, Ph. D. coined the term “hyperthermic conditioning.” Hyperthermic conditioning describes any situation where the body’s core temperature rises. Anytime you deliberately acclimate your body (independent of aerobic physical activity) to heat it is referred to as hyperthermic conditioning., minimizing pain in muscle recovery. Endurance Boost Whether you are an athlete or not, an increase in endurance during a workout is going to be beneficial to your overall health. By acclimating your body to the heat of a sauna (hyperthermic conditioning), you are preparing your body to heat up while working out. Your body will then make adjustments, boosting your overall ability to workout at a higher level for a longer period of time.“There is a growing body of evidence suggesting that heat acclimation whether through exercise or sauna use promotes physiological adaptations which results in increased muscle mass, endurance, and stress tolerance. Additionally, heat stress has shown positive results on improving focus, memory, learning, and growth of new brain cells.” A little bit of heat on the body can be a good thing, increasing blood flow to your heart and muscles which strengthens endurance and builds muscle mass. Increase in Overall Performance Using a sauna not only improves physical fitness performance, but they also improve our mental performance. Our bodies and minds need time to rest and recover, and sitting in a sauna for even just 15 minutes could be exactly what you need. Studies are proving this to be true. “In one study, when a small group of well-trained distance runners sat in a sauna for 30 minutes after training four times a week, they improved their performance in a run to exhaustion test by 32 percent and decreased their 5K time by nearly two percent after just three weeks.” And if you are an athlete, you know that half of the challenge is physical and half is mental. Our bodies and brains are connected. But don’t just take our word for it! Try it out for yourself. Do you feel a difference in recovery if you use the sauna post-workout? We'd love to hear your results!

Common locations include basements, home gyms, and master bathrooms. 2. Prepare the Flooring: Use water-resistant surfaces like tile, concrete, or laminate. Avoid placing the sauna directly on hardwood or carpet, as heat and moisture can cause damage. 3. Plan for Electrical Installation: Ensure the sauna is close to an appropriate power source. Installing an indoor sauna is a fantastic way to create a personal wellness retreat inside your home. Whether integrating a freestanding sauna or building a custom sauna, proper preparation ensures optimal performance, safety, and longevity. Step 1: Choose the Right Location Before installing your sauna, consider the following factors to select the best location: ✔️ Accessibility: Pick a space that is easy to reach and provides privacy, ideally near a bathroom or shower for post-sauna rinsing. ✔️ Structural Integrity: Ensure the floor can support the sauna’s weight, especially in multi-story homes. ✔️ Ventilation: Good ventilation is essential to allow for fresh air intake and moisture removal. ✔️ Available Space: Determine the size of your sauna based on your needs and available room space. Common indoor sauna locations include: Home gyms Master bathrooms Basements Spas or wellness areas Thinking about placing an indoor sauna outdoors? Indoor saunas are not designed to withstand outdoor elements like rain or snow. If you’re considering an outdoor installation, keep in mind: Covering is required: A covered patio or pergola is ideal. Glass retains less heat: Indoor saunas have more glass than outdoor models, so in colder climates, upgrading to a more powerful heater is recommended. No enclosed floor: Indoor saunas do not come with flooring. If placing it on a slatted deck, install a sealed platform underneath to prevent drafts. Step 2: Frame Insulate the Space If you are building a custom indoor sauna, proper framing and insulation are key to heat retention and moisture control. ✔️ Frame the area: Use wood framing to create the sauna enclosure. ✔️ Insulate walls and ceiling: Use high-quality insulation like fiberglass or rock wool to maintain heat efficiency. ✔️ Install a vapor barrier: A foil-faced vapor barrier should be installed to prevent moisture from seeping into surrounding walls. Freestanding saunas do not require framing but should still be placed in a well-ventilated, dry area. Step 3: Electrical Considerations for Your Heater If you choose an electric sauna heater, proper installation is crucial for safety and compliance. ✔️ Power source: Ensure your chosen location has access to the appropriate electrical supply. ✔️ Consult an electrician: All electrical work must be performed by a licensed electrician who understands local codes and regulations. ✔️ Cost considerations: Electrical installation costs vary based on: Distance from your sauna to your electrical panel Local electrician rates Cost of wiring and material ✔️ Get multiple quotes: We recommend contacting 2-3 electricians for estimates before starting installation. Step 4: Prepare the Floor Your indoor sauna can be placed on almost any solid surface—including concrete, tile, and laminate. However, avoid placing it directly on carpet or hardwood flooring, as moisture and heat can cause damage. ✔️ Use a waterproof surface: Tile, concrete, or other water-resistant materials are best. ✔️ Ensure proper drainage: A slight floor slope can direct water toward a drain in areas with higher moisture. ✔️ Install a sealed platform if necessary: If placing the sauna on a slatted deck, build a sealed platform underneath to eliminate drafts. Step 5: Plan for Final Details Before installation, consider these final touches: ✔️ Door Size Placement: Ensure the sauna door is positioned for easy access. ✔️ Benches Seating: Plan your seating arrangement based on your comfort and available space. ✔️ Lighting: Use low-wattage, sauna-safe lighting to enhance the atmosphere.
